Test Automation’s relationship to Functional and Regression Testing

Where appropriate, automated test packs can run continuously to ensure functional correctness and the robustness of a system.

The fly in the ointment is that test automation is also a cost to the organisation and can be poorly implemented. When advising clients, I get concerned when their testing function presents large automated test packs - without being able to explain the contents of these packs, raising the question: “Are these enormous packs effective and how much test coverage do they achieve”?

This white paper discusses how mature test automation fits into good testing practice methodology, and how automated test packs can be collected and maintained to remain effective and cost-efficient.
