What does a standard testing process look like?

When I am advising clients, I usually compare the standard testing process to the British Highway Code, since testing uses the same rules, techniques and processes over and
over again.

The same Highway Code is used by car, van, HGVs, motorcyclists, scooter riders, cyclists and pedestrians. Regardless, if you are driving an articulated lorry across the country or crossing the road on foot - the Highway Code applies equally in both situations - but is being used differently.

Therefore, what does the basic testing process that underlies all testing look like, and how does it apply to Agile processes?
